WHAT IS SECOND CHANCE?
Second Chance is a student services program and student club providing support and resources for currently and formerly incarcerated students at SRJC. Second Chance is committed to providing a judgment-free space for systems-impacted students to break the cycle of recidivism through education and empowerment. Regardless of how long you have been inside, or where you have been in the justice system (prison, jail, juvenile hall, or probation camp), you will find a home on campus and a place of belonging in Second Chance.
Second Chance is part of the California Community College Rising Scholars Network, a group of community colleges dedicated to opening opportunities and academic achievement for students who have experienced the criminal justice system.

WHY IS EDUCATION IMPORTANT?
Education is a proven remedy to incarceration and re-incarceration, and to providing financial stability and personal growth and transformation. Wherever you start, the idea of going back to school can be intimidating. It may be years since you set foot in a classroom, and you may have had a negative experience with school in the past. You may also be worried about juggling the responsibilities of a job, school, family, and adjusting to life on the outside. Just know that Second Chance is here to help and support you.
