WHAT DOES SECOND CHANCE PROVIDE?
- Dedicated Student Support
Second Chance has a dedicated student support specialist and peer coaches to assist you from start to finish. They can assist you with filling out financial aid applications, accessing your online courses and student portal, learning how to use CANVAS, providing one-on-one support, and much more. If you aren't sure about something, reach out and we can figure it out together.
- Dedicated Counseling
Academic, career, and personal counseling from a dedicated SRJC Second Chance counselor.
- Weekly Meetings
Second Chance meets every Tuesday 11:30 – 12:30pm except during semester breaks. Connect with other Second Chance students committed to maintaining sobriety and building new positive relationships and a community of respect, care, and support. We meet on the Santa Rosa Campus and via zoom.
- Technology & Supplies
We will guide you through the process of borrowing a laptop, hotspot, calculator, and more for the semester through our college Library. We offer free school supplies and basic needs resources. Let us know what resources you are looking for so we can work together to find what you need.
- Bookstore Gift Cards
Second Chance students that are successfully completing their courses and maintain 3 or more contacts with our program are eligible for up to $100 cards each semester after midterms.
- Book Store Grants
Second Chance students receive bookstore grants in the Fall and Spring terms based on units enrolled. Continuing students will be notified about the grant just before the start of the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Free Expungement
In the Spring term we offer free Clean Slate services (expungement) through The Access Project. Additionally, Second Chance students can get free professional expungement (clearing your criminal record) assistance year around through our volunteer expungement coach.
- Scholarships
Second Chance has a number of scholarships offered through our scholarship office for those who apply and are eligible. Scholarship applications open in January each year.
- Referrals & Resources
We provide referrals to on-campus and off-campus services and resources to help you succeed. Second Chance students are added to our email list to receive announcements on current jobs, relevant events, and resources. See our Partners Page for additional resources.
- Letters of Support
We will write letters of support for active Second Chance students for court, jobs, custody issues, housing, etc., as warranted.
- Second Chance Center
We have our own space on campus for Second Chance students to study, connect, find resources, and unwind. The space is located in the counseling department, Bertolini 2nd floor room 4790. The space is open from 9am - 5pm M-Th and 9am -1pm Fridays. Come check it out!
- Priority 1 Registration
Active Second Chance students are eligible for priority 2 registration each semester if all first steps (college orientation, placement, education plan) are completed and they remain in good standing. Registration priority times are posted in your student portal once the schedule of classes for the next semester is available online.
- Parking
Second Chance students enrolled in on-campus classes are eligible for parking permit assistance.
- Honors Society Membership
We will pay for current Second Chance students who are nominated to the National Leadership Society membership.
